Engineers Without Borders at Boston University (EWB-BU) is a student-led organization dedicated to creating sustainable engineering solutions that empower communities around the world. Our current project focuses on providing access to clean and reliable water for a school community in Tinet, Kenya, a rural area where students and families have long faced challenges accessing safe drinking water.
Last summer, our team traveled to Tinet to begin implementing a borehole well for the school and surrounding community. Working closely with local drilling company, Horizon Drilling, and community leaders, we successfully drilled the borehole to a depth of 175 meters and conducted water quality and pump tests to ensure that the water source met safety standards. In addition to our engineering work, we also provided the school with donated laptops to help improve students’ access to digital learning tools and broaden educational opportunities.
Now, our focus is on completing the project by designing and installing a solar-powered pump and filtration system. This system will provide the community with sustainable, year-round access to clean water, reducing reliance on unsafe or distant sources. The funds we raise will directly support the materials, construction, and continued maintenance of this system, which our team plans to implement in the summer of 2026.
Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to delivering clean water and educational resources to Tinet. Your support helps us not only complete this life-changing project but also foster global partnerships built on sustainability, collaboration, and hope.
