Our Community Stepped Up Last Year. We Need Your Help Again
Last year, the BU Food Pantry distributed over 16,000 pounds of groceries—including rice, canned vegetables, peanut butter, and more—to BU students experiencing food insecurity. Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, we were able to meet the needs of many students. But the need for our services has only grown.
In September 2024 alone, students placed 530 orders, nearly double the number of orders received in the same month last year. This rapid increase clearly indicates that food insecurity remains a pressing issue on our campus.
This is our second year running the BU Food Pantry campaign, and thanks to community support, we’ve made a huge difference in students’ lives. But the work isn’t done yet. With the demand for food support growing, we need our community to come together once again.
History of the BU Food Pantry
BU has a long history of supporting the food needs of its community, starting from the Student Food Rescue program in 1988 to the Community Cares and Community Cupboard food pantries in 2019 and 2020. These initiatives aimed to address food insecurity in our community and ensure everyone has access to food.
In 2022, the new office of Student Wellbeing launched a centralized approach to food support. Thanks to cross-campus partnerships and funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) through the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education, Student Wellbeing has been focused on educating students about food resources and providing food through the BU Food Pantry.
Thanks to your incredible generosity, we have not only reached but blown past our initial goal of $50,000 with an entire week still left in our campaign! Over 400 amazing students, alumni, parents, friends, faculty, and staff have rallied together to support nutritious meals and education opportunities for current BU students. 🌟
As we embrace the season of Thanksgiving, we're thrilled to announce an exciting new stretch goal: we're aiming for $65,000! Every extra dollar raised will help the BU Food Pantry staff and volunteers keep our shelves overflowing with healthy, non-perishable food items for even longer. An additional $15,000 could mean over 1,000 more grocery bags going out next semester with expanded healthy food options.
Your continued support means the world to us. Let's finish strong and make an even bigger impact! 💪❤️
