Dr. Carrie O'Connor knew that studying abroad is life-changing. Help us ensure that more students get to have that experience by supporting the Carrie O'Connor Memorial Travel Fund! This scholarship fund honors the life and lasting legacy of Dr. Carrie O’Connor, beloved Lecturer of French in BU's Department of Romance Studies.

Gifts to the Carrie O'Connor Memorial Travel Fund support two $1,500 travel grants per year for students to study abroad in a Francophone country. Award recipients gain French language experience and explore the intercultural perspectives that so enriched Dr. O'Connor's life and teaching. Your support ensures that Carrie's memory will endure in the international academic adventures of our students, many of whom will be traveling abroad for the first time. All recipients of the O'Connor Travel Grant have high financial need.

Here's what your dollars could unlock for our award winners:

• $5 = round-trip public transit to get to class
• $25 = the first meal with new friends
• $50 = textbooks and materials for one course
• $75 = new luggage for that first international journey
• $100 = one week of groceries while abroad
• $1,000 = airfare to the study abroad program
• $1,500 = a travel grant for one student
• $3,000 = one year of travel grants for students
• $6,000 = two years of travel grants for students

When getting to know her students, Carrie told the story of her own travels to France, China, and beyond. She wanted them to see that cultural adventures can be found anywhere and that learning French is one way to unlock them. We, her friends and colleagues at BU, believe in her message. Although Carrie was only part of our community for a short time, her energy, commitment to students, and her passion for French have made a lasting impact on each of us. We hope that through this fund, many more students will be able to discover the world she knew so well.
