The BU Recovery Community (BURC) is a community of BU undergraduate, graduate, and professional students in recovery from substance use. At its core, the BURC connects BU students who understand the challenges and joys of recovery. Students struggling with substance use often describe feeling alone. The BURC facilitates belonging and connection with other students who just get it. Every person’s recovery journey is different. BURC is here to support all students in the ways that work for them. BURC embraces all pathways of recovery and is not affiliated with any 12-step or therapeutic program.
Your donation will help expand the reach of the BU Recovery Community by:
- Covering costs of coffee connections between students who are curious about recovery and BU Recovery Community members
- Hosting free substance-free social events for students in recovery, such as movie-nights, coffee connections, and other meet-ups.
- Providing stipends for students in recovery who take on leadership roles in the community by hosting meetings, facilitating student connections, and leading outreach.
“For me, being a member of the BURC has really involved finding ‘my people’ at BU…I felt isolated from most social spaces because of my relationship to substances. BURC has given me a community of people who are not only my classmates, but who understand that intimate and sensitive part of my life.” - BU Recovery Community Member
