This fund helps dental students get the experience they need to graduate and become dentists, but it also allows for patients to receive dental and oral care that they otherwise would not be able to afford. Despite having insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, etc., dental procedures are expensive, and the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine never wants a patient to walk away because they are concerned that they cannot afford it. By helping cover the costs of dental care, we keep patients out of the ER (where many individuals end up when pain gets too much), DMD students can keep patients from needing future more expensive procedures with preventative care and not avoiding timely procedures. It’s a win/win and an investment in the community that assists future medical professionals and patients alike. Harold Newman (Former Director of Finance) would make sure that patients were never stuck with bills they could not afford, and to honor him and his legacy of empathy and generosity we are proudly putting this fund front and center to ensure that it is sustainable for decades to come.
