YOU ARE WHY

About

At this moment of opportunity, Boston University seeks significant support for our research enterprise. Gifts from alumni, parents, and friends will support the current and future scholars who advance knowledge and discovery at Boston University and those who benefit from their important work.

Gifts of all sizes are appreciated.

Highlighted Funds

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)
By making a gift to our Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), you can expand student access to funded, faculty-mentored research experiences across the University.

UROP students complete scientific or scholarly projects that lead to the production of new knowledge, increase problem-solving capabilities, and generate original theory and interpretation. UROP also plays a key role in the University’s broader efforts to support career development.

Today, Boston University cannot fund about a third of applicants who are qualified and deserving of funding. 100 percent of gifts provide stipends to students.

The Future Scholars Fund
PhD students are at the heart of Boston University’s excellence. They drive original research, important discoveries, and the generation of new knowledge. Just as important, they inspire and mentor undergraduates. At scale, robust investments in graduate students promote innovation and economic growth.

Boston University can sustain its own research programs and help build a globally competitive research workforce by expanding funding for PhD fellowships. Gifts of any size to the Future Scholars Fund will be spent at the discretion of the University Provost to award fellowships across the University. In addition, we welcome donors to endow a PhD fellowship in a specific school, college, or area of interest with a minimum gift of $1.2 million.

The Research Futures Fund
Convergent research means integrating and blending methods, approaches, and perspectives from multiple disciplines—from the sciences, engineering, and medicine to public policy and business—to create new frameworks or fields of study in the interest of addressing complex societal challenges. Boston University researchers who work in this way have already driven breakthroughs in brain health, synthetic biology, neurophotonics, climate science, and AI.

Donors interested in helping to solve complex societal problems can give to the Research Futures Fund. All gifts will be used as seed funding for new convergent research projects at BU. These awards will help faculty teams launch their efforts and position themselves for future foundation and federal funding.
